Re: I just found some black marks on the door frame of an inside door. They dont leave any residue,

Hello @Gina44,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your door frame.

This type of damage is sometimes caused by repeated exposure to water or heavy moisture. Is this door frame close to the shower or laundry room?

To test if it is still in good condition grab a flat head screwdriver and press into the black marks. If the screwdriver sinks into the wood, it means that it has rotted and must be replaced. But if it does not, then it is just surface damage and it can be sanded down and re-stained.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Thank you for your advice.  What kind of trades person should I contact to rectify this problem please.

Re: I just found some black marks on the door frame of an inside door. They dont leave any residue,

Eric, this door is inside the Family Room with no water any where near it.  The pest control guy used a moisture meter and said it went off the scales indicating moisture. So how would it get inside? From where? Gina

Re: I just found some black marks on the door frame of an inside door. They dont leave any residue,

Hello @Gina44

If you suspect that there is water running under tile and is getting the end of the timber piece wet, I propose engaging the services of a leak detection specialist. They will be able to track down where the water is coming from. They might also offer suggestions on how to possibly repair or seal it. At this point in time, it is difficult to tell where the water is coming from without further investigation.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
