How to fix hole where curtain to be installed?

Hi,

I installed the curtain but it came off the wall (twice).

Now the hole got bigger and now i need to fill up the gap and insert the curtain hook again.

Should i make a bigger hole and place the timber behind (although i am sure how i can do)? What would be the best way to fix this?

Please help

Re: How to fix hole where curtain to be installed?

Hello @dogbural

What kind of fixing did you use on the wall? Are the curtain rail hooks all lined up? Is there a reason why the curtain hook keeps pulling out? Did someone step on the curtains and pull the rail and hook out? Generally speaking, you can install a piece of timber support behind the plasterboard, but you will have to drill a bigger hole and you'll need to repair that hole when you are finished. The wood will need to be glued and screwed behind the plasterboard wall to serve as an anchor point for the screws.

However, before that I suggest using Ramset M5 x 9mm Plasterboard Hollow Wall Anchor - 4 Pack. Please remember if you tighten it too much it will break the anchor at the back. My only other suggestion is to triple check the fittings should you wish to try again.

Re: How to fix hole where curtain to be installed?

Hi @dogbural,

That's quite a bit of damage with enough downward force to push the bottom of the curtain bracket into the plaster.

Wondering if you have kiddies and/or kitty's.

I suggest not to make the hole larger, instead cut a slot.

Cut a slot in the plaster.

Cut a larger piece of plywood

Drill a center hole for string to pass through

Also drill two screw pilot holes for the clamps.

Cut two smaller clamp pieces and drill pilot holes.

Position and align the plywood on the plaster and drill through the pilot holes to mark the plaster hole locations.

Drill out the plaster holes with a larger bit so it's easier to see them later on when mounting the clamps.

With dowel tied to the end pass the string through from the back.

Apply adhesive to the plywood strip, poke into the slot and pull back the string.

Use the grab screws to manoeuvre and align the plywood strip clamp pilot holes with the plaster holes.

Install the clamps and screw down.

Later on do the usual plasterboard repair thing after removing the clamps, the grab screws and cutting the string

Cheers

Re: How to fix hole where curtain to be installed?

Hi @EricL

I initially used the nylon wall mate but for some reason, it came off..

Then, I used something like Ramset 3 / 16" x 75mm Plasterboard Spring Toggle Anchor - 10 Pack - Bunnings Australia,which created wider hole.

Thanks @AlanM52

Can I use this Ecoply 2400 x 1200mm 17mm Plywood Pine Structural CD Grade - Bunnings Australia? WOuld it sufficient to hang the rail hook?

Should I clean up the back of the plaster?

Hi @dogbural,

No need to spend that much.

18mm Timber Multi Use Pine Panel

That will be fine, you only need to measure/cut a piece that will cover (overlap) all of the damaged wall.

Cheers
