Hi there, I am trying to install the above floating shelf but the flat head screw doesn’t seem to hold it in place ( shelf slanting down). I’ve tried to adjust the depth of the screw as well with no luck. Is it actually an issue with the width of bracket or I’m using the wrong screw?
thanks,
Melanie
Hello @melanietham
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your keyhole hanger floating shelf.
It's possible that the keyhole hanger itself has come loose and is no longer providing a tight fit. I suggest checking the screws holding the keyhole hanger to the shelf. The hanger might be bent out of shape. It is technically possible to bend the hanger back into shape by tapping it with a hammer. The hanger usually bends when there is too much weight applied on the shelf. Another possible solution is to place a 10mm washer on the screw to provide a larger area for the hanger to hold onto. Please give these suggestions a try and let us know if any of them are effective.
Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @AlanM52 and @Noyade for their recommendations.

Afternoon @melanietham
That is an old school shelf holder. I havnt seen one like that except for hanging pictures. Where the downward force of the weight helps lock it in place. Is there a chance of a photo to show how big the shelf is? As it stands it looks like the weight is held up purely by that wedge with the screw. A picture of the screw that you are trying to attach it to the wall with would be handy as well ![]()

Thanks everyone for the prompt reply! I’ve just bought some washer today and will give it a go tomorrow. There’s 3 shelves in the bundle but this is the longest one and the screw( which seems rather small in my opinion to hold the shelf). The shelf itself is quite light weight ( about 1 kg or less).
I’ll update once I give the washer a go ![]()
Cheers,
Mel
The gap between the screw and the wall decides how much it will have. Try to get it as close to the wall as you can.
