Hello, I have moved into a new house and there is a pet odour in the carpeted living area. The owner steamed cleaned twice, and I have recently steam cleaned it again. I have treated it with vinegar, vinegar and bicarb soda and left bicarb soda on the carpet overnight. The odour that keeps coming back. Is there any way to remove the odour without getting a new carpet? The living area is a big space, so it would require a lot of product.
Thank you
Hello @Grace98
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about pet odour.
If the carpet is under a timber floor, odds are the pet odour has penetrated the carpet and has soaked into the timber flooring. It will be necessary to remove the carpet and treat the timber flooring direct and allow it to totally dry off before covering it with carpet again. If it is concrete flooring, odds are the foam underlay under the carpet may have soaked the pet odour and is deep seated into the foam's material. Therefore, no amount of steam cleaning will remove the pet odour.
I suggest trying out Peerless JAL 750ml Attack An Odour-Odour Neutraliser. It's an effective neutralizer and will help reduce the smell from the carpet. If the smell still refuses to go away, I suggest speaking to your landlord about the issue.
