I have old sideboard.
I would like to strip parts of it back and some sections white.
Hello @cheryl6
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about revamping your sideboard cabinet.
Before you start sanding the surface of the cabinet, I suggest assessing its condition and finding out if any of its surfaces are timber veneer. If the cabinet has any timber veneer surfaces, I suggest using Poly 1L Polystrippa Paint Stripper. This will allow you to remove the majority of the varnish sealer off its surface, by removing most of the varnish sealer you won't have to sand the surface so harshly. The stripper can be used on specific sections only, especially if you are planning to paint only certain sections of the cabinet.
The general process will be to use the paint stripper, once you've stripped all the varnish sealer off the surface can be lightly sanded to remove any residual sealer left on the surface. The cabinet can then be wiped down to remove any sanding dust on its surface. You can then begin painting, sealing or varnishing the surface of the cabinet.

Thankyou so much for the info. I have no idea if it's veneer but I do know that's it's old and extremely heavy. But I will treat it as you suggested as a gentle approach it better than a harsh one. Thankyou again.
