How to remove basin spout?

G'day folks,

I'm wanting to replace my basin spout and just wanted to go about it the best way.

From what I've read, you remove the nut securing the spout to the sink (see photo) with a basin wrench (if that's the best tool).

Is this how it would be done? I was going to pick up an Irwin 280mm basin wrench for accessibility, but they had a lot of negative customer reviews so I am hesitant.

Any help would be most appreciated,

T.

Re: Removal of basin spout

Hello @TJP

It will be difficult to get access to the plastic nut holding the spout in place. Since it is only plastic the IRWIN Telescopic Basin Wrench will have a good chance of removing it. My best advice is to keep your docket should you decide to exchange the basin wrench for another tool.

Re: Removal of basin spout

Cheers for the reply Eric,

Managed to get the plastic nut off, should the spout now be removable? Or have I missed a step?

Re: Removal of basin spout

Hi @TJP

No, you did not miss a step. I suggest carefully twisting the spout left and right while lifting it up, the spout should come off. I suggest using Kinetic 15g Tap Lubricant on the O rings before pushing the new spout into place. Remember that the black plastic screw must be put back in order for the spout to stay in place.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Removal of basin spout

Cheers Eric,

I'm going to let it sit in some WD-40 overnight and have another crack tomorrow.

Re: Removal of basin spout

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the help, managed to get off the spout, but don't see any o rings. Will they be included in the new tap/ spout set? Or will I need to purchase separately?

Cheers,

T.

Re: Removal of basin spout

Hi Jacob,

Follow up question, the flange can't screw down all the way. Am I correct in saying, this is an issue with the tap body? If so, is this a plumbers job or can I tackle this myself?
