How to install whirly bird to ridge capping on shed?

Hi all, trying to reduce the heat in my 6x4 shed. Summer days we see over 40 and I want to try release some of the heat

I have an air vent to install but all the videos I have watched no one has the bent over ridge capping.

Any suggestions how I can install the whirly bird  to the shed ? Pics attached for reference.

Re: How to install whirly bird to this ridge capping on shed

Hello @fitzy87

Thanks for sharing your question about installing a whirly bird on your shed roof.

I propose attaching the edge of the flashing of the whirly bird to the ridge capping of the shed and using Selleys 290ml Grey Storm Waterproof Gutter And Roof Sealant to seal the edges. I would then like to suggest putting another ridge cap such as the Suntuf 3.0m Clear Polycarbonate Universal Ridge Cap over the existing ridge cap and over the flashing of the whirly bird. This will guarantee that no rainwater will flow under the flashing of the whirly bird. It does not have to be the entire length of the shed; it can be just enough to cover flashing of the whirly bird.

Let me call on our experienced members @AlanM52, @Nailbag and @Noyade for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @fitzy87

Basically what @EricL is describing will result in something similar to the image below when finished. Then use a rib seal under the front to prevent return water coming up from the front with driving rain and or win.

Hi @fitzy87,

White: Lift up or cut out with aviation snips.

Yellow: Tuck in the flashing

Red: Lift up near the roof ridge when shoving in the bird.

When everything is prepared apply beads of sealant, shove in the bird and fix top with pop rivets.

For the bottom I use a length of flashing notched out and popped down with the bottom edges sitting in flyscreen spline.

Anyone doing the DIY thing should have one of these in their kit.

Looks like you spend time in there is it a small workshop?
