Hello Team,
I am looking advice to fix this TV bench. It started peeling from the edges that are exposed to sunlight from the window. It is particle board and paper foil, so looking out for the options to paste it back.
Thank for your help.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @agrwlvipul. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about fixing furniture.
I’m not entirely sure what it means by “paper foil,” but it looks to be a type of vinyl wrap that’s thermo-applied or adhered to the chipboard. You can usually reattach it with a contact adhesive, but before committing, I’d suggest testing a small section first to make sure it bonds well and doesn’t damage the finish. Keep in mind that once the coating has lifted, it can sometimes shrink slightly, so it may not sit back down perfectly flat. If you do notice small gaps after gluing, a touch-up with some black paint along the edges can help blend everything in and give you a neater finish.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Thanks @MitchellMc for your advice. I was checking the contact adhesives from the link provided by you, I am newbie and overwhelmed by seeing the number of products there, can you please recommend me few options out of these?
Thanks
Hi @agrwlvipul,
The Selleys Kwik Grip Spray Contact Adhesive should do the trick.
Follow the instructions on the packaging for the best results possible. They recommend spraying the adhesive on both surfaces, allowing them to sit until touch dry (5-30 mins) before pressing the two surfaces together and clamping.
You could use something like a piece of 900 x 600 x 3mm MDF with these Craftright 300mm 2 Piece Quick Action Clamps to clamp it in place while it dries.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Jacob
I'd like to see photos of how you get on with this @agrwlvipul.
Other roller thoughts are a laminex roller and a weighted (1kg) roller.
I would certainly be going with the spray @JacobZ recommended.
