Hi,
I would like to create a computer monitor riser similar to the picture, but 1.8m long instead to go the length of the desk. What products would be best for this? I realise that it may be difficult to find perspex brackets like the picture, so might have to use wooden blocks instead. In that case, is there a way to prevent screw holes from showing etc.?
Thanks ![]()
Hi Noyade,
Looks like you've made something similar! I think I'd prefer flat panels/blocks/dividers instead of legs however - so something more like the picture I posted but in wood (since I assume it wouldn't be possible to find clear panels like that).
That's Ok.
Just a thought.
But you'll need more support for 1.8 metres than two ends? Or are you going to brace the length?
Hello @chumchurrum
I suggest using a Specrite 1800 x 600 x 18mm Timber Multi Use Pine Panel. In order to avoid seeing drill holes, I propose countersinking the screw holes and filling it with timber filler. I recommend using Zenith 8G x 60mm Countersunk Rib Head Chipboard Screws - 50 Pack. Propose adding a Centre support soi that the panel will not bow even if you put a lot of weight on it. I suggest placing a supporting panel at the back so that the legs will not lean or shear.
I've placed a sample image below to give you an idea of how to build it. My best advice is to drill pilot holes to prevent splitting the timber.

Yeah, I was thinking of having several of the panels instead of just two.
Thanks very much Eric, that looks good.
Would there be any way to hide the raw edges of the pine supports? Or would it not look that bad?
Hi @chumchurrum
You can sand the cut edges with 180grit sandpaper to create a beautiful smooth finish so that it will be at par with the surface of the panel. My best advice is to use a sanding block to maintain a flat finish. Another option of course is to use plastic moulding Brutus 19 x 19 x 2.5mm 2.4m PVC Building Moulding to create a soft edge.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Thanks Eric, I'll try that. One final question sorry - your diagram showed a shelf width of 200mm, but the pine plank you linked has a width of 600mm. Do you know if Bunnings is able to cut planks lengthways in store? Or just along the short side?
Hello @chumchurrum
This will be a test of your D.I.Y skills. I'm sorry but the Specrite panels can't be cut on the shop saws. I propose cutting it with a circular saw or handsaw.
