Re: how to give timber a weathered look

Hello @Evie5671

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about giving timber a weathered look.

Can you please tell us what kind of wood you are using for the mantel piece, and do you have a picture of the design you would like to emulate? There are plenty of inspirational images online, I'm sure you'll be able to find one that suits your needs. Once you find one, please share it with the community. We can then offer recommendations on how to re-create the look you are after.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @Evie5671,

Please let me know if you need a hand uploading some images so Eric can assist.

I also wondered whether you might tackle this project from the other direction and simply use a recycled piece of timber?

Members such as @Nailbag@JoeAzza@LePallet and @prettyliving might have some input into the discussion.

Re: How to give timber a weathered look?

Hi there @Evie5671

there are many ways you can achieve this as I have done this many times with a lot of different ways, and all came up amazing

what timber are you thinking of using?

Being a mantle are you wanting to use one thick solid piece of  timber roughly 200mm x 60mm? Which you can use a nice piece of hardoowod.

Hi @Evie5671

Have to agree with @Jason with the suggestion of using reclaimed timber. There are so many options available and the merchants can cut to size. This leaves you to install and apply a clear coat.
